Hotel reservations for NDK are now open! I reserved one, but for some reason it won't let me reserve multiples, so if someone (or two or three someones, maybe) want to go for it as well, that might be good. You can always cancel the reservation later if we don't need it, so.

EDIT: Also, I believe we're aiming for 9/9/10 - 9/13/10, Thursday-Sunday (check out Monday) so we have extra time and stuff together, and atrium view rooms. Trust me, the atrium rooms are so much better.

Your result for The Fan Fiction Personality Test...

The Mindgamer

Everything is possible, nothing is ever really over.

Fanfiction is a creative outlet for you. You don't intentionally write it, it just happens. You find inspiration in several fandoms, but are not obsessed with only one.

You like to explore "what if" situations. What if this character had never made this very choice? What if this event had taken place sooner, never, elsewhere? What if these people had never met?

You are likely to write Alternative Universes, fan seasons or sequels and just follow your (sometimes pretty strange) plot bunnies.

Sounds about right? Granted, a lot of my what-ifs include porn, but I think what if Anotsu and Magatsu had sex in a tree is a perfectly valid story idea.

I got a new phone (the Droid), and it's...sort of overwhelming. I'm not used to owning phones that work this well and, like, do what they're supposed to do. And stuff. The camera is amazing (for a cell phone camera).

Made more chocolate coffee gingerbread today and found that if you pile the chopped ginger and chocolate on top of the batter and pour the hot coffee over it (rather than stirring the choco and ginger in first) almost all of it melts. Even the ginger! I think this is good? I mean, the cake tastes better, but it lacks the huge chunks of chocolate that settle to the bottom, so. Unsure.

The dress I got for [info]kernelm and [info]virtualinsomnia's wedding got here and ummmm I may need to return it. And get another. Before next Wednesday. Aaahhhh I suck at shopping. There may be pictures and a poll to follow. I knew the polls would be what forced me to get a paid account again.

Meme taken from [info]heather11483:

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Favorite character, favorite moment, unpopular opinion, something about a fic of mine... whatever. Wackiness encouraged.

Go nuts.

This is an update to let everyone know I'm not dead!

...Mostly. I'm mostly not dead. Getting sort of close, mind you, with OMG TWO SENIOR THESES, WHY AM I DOING THIS, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME I SLEPT OH GOD, but aside from occasional bursts of capslock-inducing stress, things are pretty good!

In other life news...
-I have a girlfriend! Hee. I'm still in the "gratuitous blushing and evasion of questions from outside parties" phase of things. It's nice. She's nice. Everything's nice. Except the part where I forget about my homework when I'm all focused on a girl, apparently. I... kinda failed my intro to Ceramics class because I forgot to go in and freaking do the work.
-But she's off in Japan for two months. After which she'll come back, but then I might be going back to Japan in late July. HA HA, thanks, life :|
-I am a semester from finishing college. I think. I hope. I'm trying to get my thesis rough drafts (yes, drafts, plural, I have two theses, because I'm the worst mix of overachiever and underachiever EVER) done BEFORE I go back, so I can convince my adviser to let me take everything I need. I may have been hindered by, uh, bad planning up to this point, but I CAN KICK THIS THING'S ASS! The ability to sort of... force-of-will my way through odd situations work is what gets me through things, often.
-I am going to DIE OF WORRYING by the time I hear back from JET.
-No chance to really test out the new camera yet. Customer reviews online are a bit mixed, but I'm hopeful! The specs are better than my old one's, and it's purple, which is fun, so I really hope it works well for me~
-I have a new winter coat, and it is SO WARM. YOU HAVE NO IDEA. IT HAS LITTLE BUILT-IN FINGERLESS GLOVES, FOR MY COMFORT AND HAPPINESS.

Uhm, that's about it, I guess. I still love you, f-list! I haven't yet been eaten by zombies, I swear!

Resolutions! )

Well, some reading was accomplished, though I was not there long enough to get nearly as much done as I wanted. This is my fault for leaving the house at 2pm and not far earlier... but I'm also a bit hampered by the fact that I did not want to spend any money on food while I was there, given current financial pressures--which will hopefully be far better once I get my damned back-pay and a w-2 with which to file my taxes. Still some interesting things were learned (and some things seen which cannot be unseen--why is it the only book with pictures was the one happily filled with pornographic ones?) and now I know what stuff I want to pull again and what to leave on the shelves.

I've been writing out some of the basics for the RP because OMG YOU GUYS HAD TO SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE ABOUT POST-APOCALYPTIC OR MODERN FANTASY. I swear wtf. So I made the decisions that it'll be modern fantasy while said apocalypse is just starting to happen. :D I'll be posting them later today or tomorrow. Anyway. Time for poll number two in regards to PBs.

What do you think should be used for PBs? Anime/video game characters? Real people avatars? A combination of both?

I have a real life person I want to use for a PB and a video game character, so my vote is for a mixture of the two. I'm also fine with picking one if all the interested parties have a preference.

Gack, the One Piece manga release rush has started. (They were releasing the translated volumes in speed with the release in the monthly "American Shonen Jump" magazine, but that was taking forever. It took ten years+ with a weekly Jump release in Japan, after all.) Three volumes (more than ten bucks each in a store, last time I checked) in one month, for a few months?! I can't do that! I'm not even caught up with the current English releases! I want to see how they did things, but maybe I'll act as another poster commented on one of the Jump discussion communities, and wait for the Davy Back Fight. Skypiea was.... notsogreat in points.

Grrrr, but it did have some really good serious!Usopp moments. Especially with Nami and Sanji. Well, I have the Japanese volumes, the English'll just wait. >.> But I want to support the release of English One Piece volumes! Who can afford this schedule, anyway?! What kinda minimum wage are teenagers working at these days? I can buy books used online for cheap, but I'm not sure how well that works economically at supporting the franchise itself, which is the main idea in the first place.

Anyone who thinks this is the most idiotic release schedule management ever is, of course, completely correct. Who is controlling this thing?! And why did they bother putting OP in the magazine-release anyway? That's targetted more at young teen boys, and those guys aren't buying collections of Japanese comics to not read about ninja and death gods. Heck, if I were fourteen, I probably would have gone "What is this thing about ugly pirates and why is it even in here?!" at the time.

At least they don't have that awful Treasure Island-style fake pirate accent anymore. Me hearties. Brrr.

This is old-ish, but too odd and interesting for me not to pass it along. One of the winners of the 2009 Visual Illusion of the Year award tells us something about what makes us perceive a face as male or female. (I foresee many happy hours spent in Photoshop by those who know how to use it better than I do. But beyond that, it's just a neat bit of observation/demonstration.)

And in a completely different direction, for anyone who may be interested: I've written up an overview of what I consider when I'm evaluating a post for inclusion in the [info]metafandom links and posted it at Dreamwidth. I'm not crossposting it because I hate to clutter up the reading lists of people who're reading in both places, and because Dreamwidth, with its unlimited comment length, is a better forum for any discussion that may develop -- not that any necessarily will, but anyone who wants to does want to discuss it with me is more than welcome to click over and do so.

Trying to decide if I want to try and walk to UWM tomorrow. It's only ~15 minutes on foot, and it will be in the 20s... I'm just sort of loath to waste a bus ticket on it simply because it's a bit nippy. The sidewalks should be in pretty good condition, anyway. Decisions, decisions. Probably will, if only because the prospect of me having to stand around waiting for the bus for nearly that long anyway are high.

What I do know is that I am tired and thus shall be turning in early (...for me.)
